There are credit cards available on the market that are specifically designed to help you 'build' or 'rebuild your credit rating. These cards are helpful if you have either got in to difficulties in the past and missed payments (but not actually defaulted on a credit card or loan), or if you have simply not used credit in the past and therefore need to go about building a credit record.
The effect of either low credit score, or no credit history is that you may have been declined by some of the major credit cards that offer the long 12 months+ 0% durations and low APR's (as listed on this site). If this is the case then a 'Credit Building' card could be suitable. In response to the increase risk the credit card companies are taking on in supplying these cards they charge a slightly higher standard APR, and usually do not offer 0% balance transfer durations.
Please note. If you have suffered from a very poor credit history in the past including recent CCJ's then these cards are not suitable for you, we suggest you look at our Bad Credit Card section.
