Santander Zero credit card 'effective way to fund holiday'

Although going away during the half-term school break can be expensive, the Santander Zero credit card could help parents get to grips with their finances, it has been suggested.

Parents looking to take their children on holiday during the half-term break could find their UK accounts are particularly drained of cash, new research indicates.

Figures from Santander Cards reveals that the cost of a family vacation on the week beginning October 24th is on average 104 per cent more expensive than the same break just seven days later.

"Our research shows that parents with children of school age face a massive premium if they want to take their children away during the half-term break," Emma Roberts, director of Santander Cards, points out.

However, she claims that making using of the firm's Santander Zero credit card can help families to negate such costs.

Ms Roberts cites the fact it does not charge a foreign exchange fee for spending abroad means that "it's the ideal credit card for families looking for the best deal on their holiday spending".

In credit best practice guidance issued by FairFX in August, holidaymakers were advised that using prepaid cards while abroad can help avoid the risks associated with carrying traveller's cheques or cash.
