Student Credit Cards Explained

What are student credit cards?

Many banks provide cards specially designed for students. These cards are granted to students with no income, providing a short term loan giving students the opportunity to repay the balance when they receive their student loans.

What features do they provide?

These credit cards generally have higher interest rates, in a similar way to a savings account, but do provide various attractive features such as discounts at student related retailers; cinema tickets; free gifts etc. They tend to offer lower credit limits to help avoid getting into too much debt.

As long as at least the minimum payment is paid monthly, and it isn't seen as free money, student credit cards are a good way to help students with their money, providing a fall back when required, and also providing a good method for building up good credit history.
