Homeowners and businesses in flood risk areas are being advised to prepare for flood damage this winter.
MORE TH>N Home and Small Business Insurance estimates that two million UK households are at risk from flooding, and is urging residents in low-lying areas to prepare a 'flood plan'.
David Pitt, head of insurance at MORE TH>N, comments: "The autumn of 2000 was the wettest in the UK for 270 years and led to the damage of 10,000 properties.
"Many people are still at risk of flood especially as climatic changes take place, so homeowners and businesses must be prepared. If you live in a flood risk area, don't close your eyes and hope for the best, prepare a 'Flood Plan' before the worst happens."
Mr Pitt added that MORE TH>N's risk mapping tool is able to locate flood risk areas in pinpoint detail, down to the individual address. As a result homeowners can now get better insurance deals than previously.
The company has issued some tips for the eventuality of flooding, including keeping sandbags ready, keeping your insurance documents in a water-tight bag in a safe place, and keeping the insurance helpline number handy. In addition, ensure you park your car in a safe place and be prepared to switch off all gas and electricity, but listen to the local radio for advice.
