More than a third of UK men do not take out travel insurance for a short break, according to research from the Post Office.
A third of those who risk travelling without cover say it is because they are going away for a short time or that nothing has ever happened to them abroad.
In comparison, only 16 per cent of women say they would not buy travel insurance before their short break.
Hugh Stacey, head of travel services at Post Office, commented: "The advice from the Post Office is don?t be short-sighted when it comes to short breaks. Whether you are going away for a couple of days or a fortnight?s holiday, you are just as susceptible to theft, loss or accidents.
"Make sure you avoid unwanted stress on holiday and enjoy your well-earned break by making sure you take out adequate travel insurance before you leave."
Some 18 per cent of "short breakers" view travel insurance as nothing more than an additional expense, particularly when trying to keep associated costs to a minimum.
