Women in Britain are doing an estimated £17,407 worth of 'unpaid' work a year, a new survey claims.
The poll reveals that it would cost more than £17,000 to hire someone to do all the work women do annually, with £4,461 worth of cooking and washing up done on average each year.
Sainsbury?s Bank is urging mothers to make sure they have adequate life insurance, covering both the income they earn and the unpaid work they do around the home, in the event of something happening to them.
Life insurance can provide peace of mind for families in the event of death and consumers should shop around for the best available deal for them.
David Pickett, Sainsbury's Bank life insurance manager, said: "Women are increasingly returning to work whilst retaining the bulk of the responsibility for managing the home and raising the children. Unfortunately, the value of work around the home is often overlooked. Last year we found that mothers in full time work with children under the age of 18 are so busy they only have four hours a week to themselves."
He added: "However, we estimate that men also do around £11,900 worth of unpaid work a year. We are therefore urging families to ensure that they are financially protected should one or both parents die, so it?s important that both parents make sure that they have adequate life insurance."
