Halifax General Insurance has launched two new pet insurance policies, costing as little as £3.50 per month for cats and £4.10 per month for dogs.
The new policies - Halifax Pet Insurance and Halifax Pet Insurance eXtra - offer £1,000 and £6,000 of cover respectively for vet's fees on an annual basis.
Providing they renew their policies annually, policyholders would be covered with the aforementioned amount each year in the event of their pet being diagnosed with a condition that needs lifetime treatment.
Many pet insurance policies will only provide a maximum amount of cover per condition or restrict the period they will pay to 12 months, Halifax claims.
The policies will also provide benefits such as advertising and reward cover for lost pets plus complementary and alternative therapies.
John Bennett, head of products at Halifax Pet Insurance, said: "Many other providers' policies only offer cover on a per condition basis, meaning that once the limit for vets' fees has been used up there is no further cover available for the conditions already treated.
"With Halifax Pet Insurance, pet owners can now get the necessary long-term treatment for their pets on an annual basis, without having to spend a fortune on vet's fees. This is another example of how Halifax General Insurance strives to develop market leading products which better satisfy our customers' needs."
