Drivers 'need to be ready for wintry weather'

Checking tyre pressure is just one of the actions drivers are being advised to take to prepare themselves and their car for driving in the wintry conditions.

As snow and ice continues to grip Britain, M&S Car Insurance urges drivers to ensure they check their wipers are in good working order before setting off.

In addition motorists are advised to look at the tread and pressure levels of tyres, while plenty of space should be kept between vehicles while out driving.

Those on the search for breakdown UK cover might also want to note that the firm's recommendations that people pack an emergency kit for their car, containing items such as a blanket, food and torch, in case they suffer an accident.

David Wells, M&S head of insurance, adds that while motorists living in areas where roads are icy are advised to take note of police advice and avoid making unnecessary journeys, those who do venture out should ensure that all lights on their vehicle are working.

Earlier this month, the Association of British Insurers pointed out motorists may find attempted claims on their car insurance are made invalid if their vehicle has been stolen while left unattended with keys in the ignition.
