Travellers have been reminded of the need to ensure they have cover in place before setting off on a break.
Significant numbers of UK holidaymakers are set to go abroad without travel insurance, new research reveals.
Figures released by Sainsbury's Finance reveal that while around nine million Britons are looking to book a break by the end of this month, some 1.14 million of these not only do not have cover in place, but have no intention of doing so before leaving the country.
However, ensuring that single trip travel insurance or some other form of protective cover is in place is crucial as Joanne Mallon, travel insurance manager for Sainsbury's Finance, points out that it can "provide assistance when abroad and for cancellations should you fall ill before your trip".
Adding that it is "as essential as your passport," consumers are advised to shop around to ensure they get adequate insurance at a competitive price.
She also claims that those looking to make multiple trips over the course of a year may find that taking out annual insurance can help them to save money.
Getting travel cover could be particularly advisable for older people as Age Concern Enterprises recently revealed an increase in the numbers of over-65s going on long-haul trips.
