Aviva has today offered home insurance advice on broken glass claims, which are expected to rise during the World Cup.
Aviva has today (June 8th) offered football fans
home insurance advice ahead of the World Cup.
With England's opening game of the tournament against the US on June 12th looming, the firm has said that
contents and buildings insurance claims on broken glass rose by 25 per cent during the last tournament in Germany in 2006.
According to Aviva, wannabe Wayne Rooneys and Steven Gerrards attempting to emulate their heroes in their back garden or in the local park are to blame, as wayward footballs act more like wrecking balls to greenhouses and windows.
The average total on these
annual insurance claims was £600 each, with conservatories and sheds also among the unintended victims of over-exuberant children.
Rob Townend, director of property claims at the firm, said: "If flying balls do end up in an unfortunate smash you are covered with Aviva's home insurance."
However, Aviva added that football fans are not solely to blame for accidental breakages, as broken glass claims increased by 30 per cent during last summer's Ashes cricket series.
