The Post Office has urged fans to make sure they are covered by home insurance during the World Cup.
New research released today (June 11th) has shown that more than nine in ten people are planning to watch the World Cup action from the comfort of their own living room.
According to the Post Office World Cup Spending Report, some 93 per cent of armchair fans are planning to watch the month-long football extravaganza - which gets underway today - at home.
And with nearly one-third of supporters indicating that they will increase their personal spending by an average of £200 each during the competition, the Post Office has advised fans to ensure their new purchases are covered by their
contents and buildings insurance.
Costly items, such as new plasma televisions, barbecues and fridges are high on the agenda for many fans, meaning that they should check that they are covered in their
annual insurance policies.
Gerry Barrett, head of insurance at the company, said: "Your team may not win, but the last thing you want is to score an own goal when it comes to your
home insurance."
