Research has found that almost half of all students do not have home insurance cover.
Around half of all students do not protect their belongings by having
home insurance, despite the fact that the average scholar's bedroom contains more than £1,600 worth of belongings.
That is according to new research conducted by Marks & Spencer, which found that 52 per cent of students across the UK hold
contents and building insurance cover for their accommodation while they are at university.
And with the start of the new academic year approaching, there may never have been a better time for students to
compare savings on the best deals available to them in order to ensure that their possessions are secure.
The study showed that there is an average of £699 worth of electrical gadgets in an academic's room, while £444 worth of clothes and sports equipment valued at £246 also contribute to the overall figure of £1,620.
Meanwhile, Santander recently introduced a new student account for customers heading off to university which has benefits such as an overdraft of up to £2,000.
