People with car insurance should make sure they are fully aware of the details of their products.
Anyone currently searching for
breakdown car cover policies might be interested to note the findings of new research published yesterday (September 28th).
According to a study conducted by Defaqto - which may also be pertinent for people with
car insurance or
young drivers insurance - nearly one-quarter (23 per cent) of the 288 breakdown policies studied do not include cover for the common accident of filling a vehicle up with the wrong type of fuel.
Mike Powell, insight analyst for general insurance at the independent research organisation, commented that more than 100,000 motorists do this every year, meaning that more forgetful drivers may be well advised to ensure their policy includes cover for such mishaps.
He went on to say that road users "need to be aware that there is a wide variation in the type of coverage offered by motor breakdown policies".
Research conducted by the AA earlier this month found that breakdown car cover premiums are rising at their fastest-ever rate due to the recent increase in fraudulent insurance claims.
