Car commuters urged to check insurance policies
People who commute to work should check their insurance policies, a leading provider has warned.
Marks & Spencer Money warned that many British workers would spend more than an hour longer away from home each day if they didn't have access to a car.
Despite this, up to four million motorists have not checked to see if their insurance policy includes provision for a replacement vehicle.
"One of the main reasons 79 per cent of commuters live within 20 miles of their workplace is to spend as little time as possible travelling," said Peter Longstaff, head of general insurance at Marks & Spencer Money.
"Suddenly having to find alternative means of getting to work would significantly reduce the amount of time they have at home, so it's essential that they have the right level of cover to minimise the inconvenience of not having a car available."
