The vast majority of UK drivers admit to committing driving sins because they are in a rush to get somewhere, according to a new study.
Just over half of drivers (52 per cent) admit to breaking the speed limit, while a significant 20 per cent admit to using a handheld mobile phone whilst driving, even though it is now illegal to do so.
The research by swiftcover.com also revealed that 17 per cent of drivers confess to using their car horn to speed up another motorist or get them out the way.
Other sins included jumping a red light (11 per cent), driving the wrong way down a wrong way street (12 per cent) and overtaking another car in a dangerous manner (13 per cent).
In addition, more than a third of drivers (39 per cent) admit to eating or drinking at the wheel.
Craig Staniland, director of underwriting at swiftcover.com commented: "It?s worrying when people are so stressed and harassed behind the wheel that they are putting themselves and others at risk.
"British motorists are being put under more and more pressure as congestion worsens and people continue to choose the car over other forms of transport so, in the future, incidents of bad behaviour are likely to go up."
