People often forget to insure their smaller high tech gadgets, according to esure.
Many consumers are not aware that their home insurance may not cover the recent user-friendly, miniature high-tech gadgets flooding the high street.
According to think-tank esure, homeowners often forget items such as iPods, MP3 players, digital cameras, computers and games consoles when calculating the value of their home contents.
esure said the value of home contents over the next decade will see a significant rise, most prominently in the over-60s who could see a four fold increase in the worth of their household technology items.
Today's current 40s and 50s spend the most on home accessories and personal technology items ? up to £550 a year.
Due to this increasing spending, esure is urging homeowners to make regular household and handbag inventories to be covered.
"In this age of miniaturisation, it's important for expensive gizmos to be tucked away in drawers, cupboards and handbags, out of sight of burglars.
"But the danger is for homeowners to overlook these items when estimating the value of the contents - which could leave them under-insured and vulnerable if a burgalar does strike," said Nicki Sellers, head of home insurance at esure.com.
