DTI fund to aid debt recovery
People struggling with spiralling levels of personal debt could benefit from a new fund set up by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The £45 million DTI fund is intended to help organisations like Citizens Advice offer support and guidance for people in debt.
Despite last year's interest rate rises the appetite for loans and credit cards among Britons has not abated.
"I know the misery that debt can bring from my own mail bag," said consumer affairs minister, Gerry Sutcliffe. "There is some first rate debt advice currently available, but debt remains a problem for many people.
"This money will lead to more advice to help people find a way out of the debilitating problems that debt can cause."
People with debt problems often turn to consolidation loans to help sort out their finances.
