An increase in mortgage lending in June has seen more confidence in the housing market.
Mortgage lending throughout the UK rose in June, according to the British Bankers' Association (BBA).
Net mortgage lending was up £100 million in June (to £4.6 billion), while gross lending reached £25.8 billion last month up from £22.3 billion in May.
20 per cent of this amount was borrowed for home purchases, showing that confidence in the housing market was once again rising.
Lending for house purchases totalled £11.9 billion up from £9.9 billion in May.
Despite this promising rise, figures are still down about £2 billion on June figures from last year.
Michael Coogan CML director told the BBC: "Lending for house purchase is on the increase which indicates improved buyer confidence matched by sellers' realistic price expectations."
