Household loans to prevent appliance breakdowns
Homeowners are being urged to apply for secure personal loans to upgrade appliances such as freezers, which frequently breakdown during the summer months.
Halifax Hone Insurance estimates that UK households keep around £3.7 billion worth of food in their collective freezers.
However, the insurer expects £6.8 million of freezer breakdown-related spoilt food claims to be made this year, 35 per cent of which will be made during summer.
Senior underwriting manager at Halifax Home Insurance, Vicky Emmott, said: "With millions of people across the UK set to hold barbecues over the bank holiday this weekend, it would be an absolute nightmare for the freezer, packed full of all those gourmet goodies to suddenly break down.
"It's not just the hungry guests that need to be dealt with; it's the financial burden of all that food going to waste."
If you think that your freezer, or any other essential household items, may be in need of replacement but you are unsure how will be cover the cost of such an expensive item, it is worth considering a secured personal loan.
