The Bank of Scotland has announced that it will put £500 towards gas and electricity bills for its new mortgage customers.

People can claim the house-warming present from the organisation within six months of the home credit deal completing.

Consumers who remortgage or take out a new product between October 4th and November 5th will be able to take advantage of the offer, which is also available through Bank of Scotland First Time Buyer and Home mover products.

Carol Anderson, head of mortgages at firm, said: "We are committed to helping make homeownership easier for first-time buyers, home movers and remortgagers alike."

She added that households should be able to save between four and six months of costs by using this deal.

This comes after the Office for National Statistics revealed last month that domestic electricity prices fell by 5.2 per cent in real terms from the second quarter this year compared with the same period in 2009.
