Details of a 200Mbps broadband service have been unveiled by Virgin Media.
Virgin Media is set to offer a 200Mbps broadband service in the next few years.
Unveiling details at the Ideal Home Show in London, the
TV and broadband provider notes such internet access speeds will be made available following the rollout of its 50Mbps and 100Mbps offerings across the entire Virgin network.
At present, the service is being trialled in Coventry and Ashford and while it may be some time before it is expanded throughout Britain it could provide people with the impetus to ensure they are getting
broadband best deals which suit their needs.
"Currently, there aren't many applications that need these sorts of speeds. However, as we bring our 100Mbps and then 200Mbps speeds to the wider public, we expect a raft of new and innovative services to be developed," Dale Barnes, head of advanced technology trials for Virgin Media, told V3.co.uk.
Such developments come as Stephen Timms, minister for Digital Britain, recently unveiled plans to get an additional 7.5 million people using the internet by 2014.
