Consumers 'should switch energy suppliers'

Switching utility providers could save consumers an average of £300, it has been suggested.

Those concerned about how much their electricity and gas bills will set them back as Britain continues to be hit by cold wintry weather should take action in reducing such a financial burden.

Such is the advice of lovemoney.com's Rachel Robson, who notes that "rather than simply putting up with" the prospect of being hit with a large utility bill, consumers should look to switch gas and electric providers in a bid to save money.

Claiming that "it's really quite easy to do", she states that people could find they save money by going to an online tariff, while paying by monthly direct debit - instead of every quarter - can also help.

And by taking the time to switch electric and gas suppliers, it was suggested that homeowners could save an average of £300 on their utility expenses.

Speaking earlier this month, Jane Baker, noted in a lovemoney.com article that while changing energy provider "may take a little time and effort", it is ultimately worthwhile.
