Utilities firm unveils price cut

Utilities firm unveils price cut

British Gas has revealed details of its third price cut in the past 12 months.

British Gas has slashed its prices, it has been revealed.

In moves thought to benefit around eight million households, the utilities giant reveals that UK gas prices are to drop by an average of seven per cent, meaning consumers' typical gas billing over the course of a year will fall by £55.

Moves by the firm have also seen it remove the price differential for its gas pre-payment meter accounts customers, meaning that those who pay for their energy this year will now - on average - be subject to the same charges as people paying via cheque or cash.

"I'm pleased we're able to offer our customers some extra help with this gas price cut - and that we're able to do this while it's still winter, allowing our customers to really feel the benefit," managing director Phil Bentley claims.

The firm points out that this latest reduction is the third time it has slashed prices in the past year, with the average gas and electric bill now £187 cheaper than it was 12 months ago.

Meanwhile, lovemoney.com's Rachel Robson recently stated that switching energy suppliers is a relatively easy process and that by shopping around people should be able to find they can reduce the amount of money such a commitment will set them back.
